Wylie the GIANT PUMPKIN!

Wylie is an "Atlantic Giant" and comes from the winning pumpkin of last years contest. A chart is shown below for the last two weeks of Wylie's growth. For the facts, the cold hard facts click here. This link will show Wylie's growth pattern by date, circumference, and now weight (all as of 8 am each day). Close the window to return to our site.

An explanation as to why Wylie has drastically changed weight: As Wylie's weight approached 200 lbs., his circumference (C) seemd to slow way down. Since his (C) was the factor in determionin g his weight, his growth seemed to be coming to an end. Looking at photos, it was obvious that he was growing longer rather than wider. So measuring the (C) of his length has revealed that he has indeed been growing and has just crossed over 300 pounds. From this point on I expect his enormous weight create bulges and rolls and he will begin to lose his baby face. We now have a picture page documenting Wylie's growth photographically. We also have a comparison from last week to this week! Click here for the pictures.

Wylie seems to have leveled off on his weight gain since the weather turned cooler and wetter in September. We think he is "bulking up" and getting ready for the scales!

Dave with Wylie on September 14th. How much bigger will Wylie get?

Our goal is 200 350 lbs. Prior to trimming, this giant plant was 30 feet long, 15 feet wide and stood 3 1/2 feet tall. On July 21st excess branches of the main vine and siblings were trimmed off . Using a guestimation weight formula, we were able to approximate Wylie's weight.
