We have a winner!
This year Dave tried really hard to grow a monstrous pumpkin. After several attempts to get a seed to germinate correctly, Dave finally had a plant growing which he named BrookLynn (for his first grandchild). As usual, the plant took over the entire compost pile and was growing wildly and thriving. When Dave returned in early September from visiting his newest grandaughter, he discovered that the stem had split in two. At best he figured that BrookLynn would continue to grow at a much slower rate.
Dave decided to enter BrookLynn in the annual contest anyway, even after giving up hope that she would be in the running. Four strong guys picked up this pumpkin, which they figured would be relatively light, and discovered that it was heavier than they thought. It was a sign of things to come!
After delivering the pumpkin to the Harvest Festival, we all started wondering how BrookLynn would do. She seemed a lot heavier than she should have been. As it turned out she was the second heaviest at 228 pounds. So Dave and BrookLynn won second place and then, to make the win even sweeter, BrookLynn won the "Prettiest Pumkin" award too!
